5 Reasons You Should Have a Wedding Registry

Whether or not you should create a wedding registry is a touchy subject. This is probably because creating one gets such mixed reviews. I hear from some couple that they enjoy picking out all their dream home accessories but there are also other couples who think it is the worst part of wedding planning. Here are five reasons why you should have a wedding registry.

GET WHAT YOU WANT

This reason is pretty self explanatory. Tell people exactly what you want, and you are more likely to get it. This is where I recommend not going overboard with your selections. There is a pretty good chance that your guests don't have time to sort through 7 pages of kitchen accessories on your registry. Pick the things you want most and let them take it from there.

GET WHAT YOU NEED

Some couples get married with little to no home essentials. There are couple right out of high school or college who have never had to cook on their own and there are couples with seasoned home staples that have lived on their own for years. Whatever your situation, no one knows exactly what you need besides you and your fiance. Making a wedding registry is a great way to actually get a couple things you need without having to head straight to IKEA after the honeymoon.

MAKE IT EASIER ON YOUR GUESTS

There is nothing easier for a guest than taking the guess work out of a gift. If I could create a registry for every birthday or gift giving holiday, I would. There is just something wonderful about knowing your gift will be well received and used by the bride and groom.

AVOID “USELESS” GIFTS

Have you ever received a gift and while you were grateful for the gesture, you knew you were likely to never actually use the gift. These gifts are the ones that usually get buried in the closet under a mountain of other things or ones that get re-gifted to that couple that also didn't have a registry. Make things simple and register.

SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND MONEY

Now there is no guarantee that you will get everything on your wedding registry. However, if you take the time to make a good registry that reflects things you actually need, there is a good chance it will save you from having to buy it yourself. I definitely don't recommend simply registering for the most expensive things you need for your house but your guests want to buy things that will be useful and that will make your new house a home.

Your wedding registry is a great way to inform all your guests of what you need and want as you join your lives together. Registries help guests feel more confident that they are spending money on quality things and will result in you getting more of what your really want. My suggestion: create your wedding registry.
