Branding Photo Shoot Series: How to Get a Year's Worth of Social Media in One Day

This is my final post in my Branding Photo Shoot series! If you’re just checking in, I’d recommend going back and reading my posts How to Prepare for Your Branding Shoot and Schedule + Execution on the Day of Your Shoot.

Today I’m going to share with you how I get a year’s worth of social media content in one day! I really believe that the best way to get the most out of your branding photo session time is to plan an entire day of shooting.

The photos I have shared in this series were taken during 1.5-2 hour shoots at four different locations. I picked locations that would be timeless and seasonless so that the photos could be shared any month of the year! Here are some of my best tips for making the most of a day full of branding photoshoots.

Pick your locations, then your clothes

I spent my branding photoshoot day at a home decor store, downtown, inside a photo studio, and finished off with a couples session with my husband! I used Pinterest boards to help me pick outfits and props that fit the vibe of each location. At the home decor store, I dressed a little more casual and laid back; while shooting downtown, I tried to look more chic and slick. Small changes to my hair and makeup made each location unique and purposeful.

Keep your branding in mind

My branding of Clarity Lane is all about bright, light, and timeless colors. I wanted to make sure that the photo locations and outfits I selected matched that! Everything my photographers and I planned for the day fits right in with my brand aesthetic, meaning it can be shared all year round.

Prep your shoot day wardrobe

I planned my outfits for this branding day photoshoot a month in advance. That allowed me time to plan exactly what outfits I would need at every location. Make sure all your outfits are steamed and ironed appropriately and keep them organized by location. That way you won’t be taking up valuable photoshoot time scrambling to find the outfit you need.

Plan who will shoot your sessions

You can hire the same photographer for every location or opt for different ones, whatever suits both your schedules best. For this branding shoot, I had three photographers for four locations. I loved seeing the resulting variety in my images since each artist has their own unique style. I had worked with each of the three photographers before, so I was very familiar with their styles. Remember that you’re investing a lot of time and money into this all-day branding shoot—now is not the time to grab a friend and test out their new camera.

Speaking of professionals

I cannot say enough good things about hiring professional hair and makeup artists for shoots! Working with somebody who is trained to make you look your most beautiful is a wonderful little luxury that really pays off. Professionally done hair and makeup photograph beautifully and will make your best features shine. Be sure to work with somebody you trust and bring along extra hair and makeup products for little retouches during the day.
