Clothing Hacks for Seasonal Wedding Photos

When planning a wedding, there are a lot of things that you can control. Unfortunately, the weather isn’t one of them. No matter the time of year, you should be prepared for whatever mother nature may throw at you on your wedding day. Luckily, I’ve been to a wedding or two and have some clothing hacks that may help you during any season of the year.

In this blog post, I have split up my best seasonal clothing advice into two categories: Warm Weather (late spring, summer, and early fall) and Winter Weather (late fall, winter, and early spring). Whatever the time of year your wedding date is, these tips are sure to help your photos run smoothly.

Warm Weather

If you’re a summer-lover like me, I already know what you’re thinking… “Summer weddings are easy in the clothing department! The weather is warm and sunny; what could go wrong?” But that’s exactly why I’ve dedicated a whole blog post to this topic. In the hot summer months, you’ll want to consider these hacks to help your wedding photos turn out beautifully.

Bring a water bottle. Maybe a few water bottles, in fact. Dehydration is a real thing, especially when you are outside in the heat all day. If you need to assign someone to remind you to drink water, do it! I promise, being hydrated will be worth it.

Add sunscreen to your beauty routine. And encourage your fiancé to wear some as well! Not only is it important to protect your skin, but you don’t want a sunburn to get in the way of your big day!

Wear a short-sleeved dress. I don’t want to override your personal style, but if you’re asking for my opinion, I say short-sleeved dresses are perfect for summer weddings! Not only do they fit the time of year, but they aren’t quite as hot or restricting.

Throw on open shoes or sandals. When picking your wedding shoe attire, make sure to remember it may be hot, and you’ll be standing for most of the day. A pair of cute, comfy sandals would work really well in this situation!

Winter Weather

Now I know there are different levels of winter weather, depending on where you live and what time of year your wedding is. But in general, you’ll want to plan on bringing layers to your wedding photoshoot during these colder months. Here are a few hacks to help you stay warm while still looking wedding day ready!

Wear leggings under your dress. It’ll come as no surprise when I say that wedding dresses don’t usually make the warmest winter outfits. But that doesn’t mean you’re helpless against the cold! One of my best tips for winter brides is to throw on a pair of leggings under their wedding dress.

Bring a coat. You don’t want to wear a big winter coat in your wedding photos, but that doesn’t mean you won’t need it! During any kind of downtime between shots, throw that coat on! You can toss it to the side when you’re taking photos, so for the end result, you’ll never even know it was there.

Wear a cloak or shawl. If you really want to go all out for the winter look, consider buying a formal cloak or shawl for your wedding photos. Specifically for snowy weddings, this can create a really magical look.

Consider a Long-sleeved dress. Again, I’m not here to tell you what kind of wedding dress you need to wear. If you’ve always dreamt of a short-sleeved dress but you’re getting married in January, don’t be afraid to go for it! But if you are concerned about your arms being too cold, a long-sleeved dress may help you out a little in this department.

Wear boots. Your choice of shoe wear are important during the summer, but they can make or break your level of warmth in the winter. Be sure to for something close-toed, like a slip-on or flat. However, boots are a really great option and will definitely keep you warm.

Did you get married in hot or cold weather? What hacks worked for you? What should we add to this list?
