Favorite Winter Photo Shoot Locations

Winter photoshoot sessions in Utah are some of the most beautiful portrait sessions you’ll do. There is something so magical about getting portraits done in a winter wonderland and Utah has so many beautiful shoot locations!

There are also plenty of gorgeous options for those hoping to avoid the cold (I feel you there!). So whether you are looking for a winter wonderland or a winter-free location, here are some of my favorite location options for winter photoshoots in northern Utah.

Winter Wonderland Locations:

If you're up for an adventure, Utah canyons are the place to find that winter wonderland location you've always dreamed of! Jordan Pines and Silver Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon are some of the most gorgeous winter location in Salt Lake City. With giant snow covered pines and majestic snow covered peaks, these locations offer endless beauty for your winter photoshoot.

Another favorite mountain spot is Tibble Fork up American Fork Canyon in Utah County. This is a picturesque location with a mountainous lake surrounded by snowy peaks and glistening snow covered pines. It also has a dreamy dock that photographs beautifully.

American Fork Canyon is also filled with Aspen trees, which provide a beautiful white background for photographing.

Just be sure to check the road conditions to be sure it's safe to drive to these locations and research what parking options are like. Bring hand warmers, a thermos of hot chocolate, and snow boots! For your safety, always stay up to date on the weather and only go up the canyons if you're confident your vehicle handles snow well.

If you'd prefer to stay down in the valley, no worries! There are lots of beautiful wintry locations for you.

Sugarhouse Park in Salt Lake City has beautiful pines that look gorgeous covered in snow. It is a large, expansive park with lots of areas to photograph in. American Fork Amphitheater is another beautiful options. The natural stone steps are always a gorgeous backdrop, and the area is surround with hundreds of years old trees that make for fantastic backdrops.

Another option is Provo's Bicentennial Park, which has beautiful walkways and evergreen trees that look like pure magic in the winter.

No Snow Locations:

If you are hoping for winter-free winter location, here are some beautiful options for you!

Highland Gardens Greenhouse has a reception area that is absolutely perfection with its gorgeous fireplaces, water features, and so much lush greenery to photograph with.

Another greenhouse location is Cactus and Tropicals. This place is eclectic and so much fun for photos. Everyone will think you went to a lush tropical island for your photoshoot.

Here’s a super classy location choice that I LOVE: the Capitol Building in Salt Lake City. This location gives you that clean, formal, timeless photography look that lasts more than a seasonal setting! With beautiful marble and gold accents, you really can't go wrong with this indoor location.

Another location that is unlike anything else you'll find in Utah is the Great Saltair. While you might encounter some snow here, this location is absolutely stunning and worth the cold! As it is already an all white location, the snow doesn't affect its gorgeous visuals,  and it will just look like it's normal, natural white sand. I recommend going close to sunset — the sunsets there are to die for!

Don't let the opportunity to get portraits done be deterred by a little snow or cold! Take full advantage of Utah's beautiful winters to create stunning photos, or, go to the locations listed that are snow-free. Either option will give you photographs that are sure to be unforgettable!
