Five Favorite Timeless Wedding Hairstyles

One of the most stressful decisions I pick up on from a lot of my brides is the decision of how they should wear their hair on their wedding day! I know it seems like a silly, low-totem-pole consideration, but I completely understand, especially from my position as a wedding photographer. These are your WEDDING photos, the images you’ll look at for the rest of your life! It’s a big decision, even though it may seem silly.

My number one suggestion to brides, for a lot of different aspects of their wedding, is to go TIMELESS. Choose a classic, timeless option over a trendy one, always. You’ll have a lot fewer regrets about the big day (and a much easier time planning!) if you opt for more classic decor, time-tested designs, and neutral tones. That goes for your hair, too! Here are my five favorite timeless wedding hairstyles (listed in the order they’re shown at the end of the post if you’d like to reference!)

The Elegant Updo

One bridal look that has truly stood the test of time is the styling of your veil in an elegant updo. Add some unique elements like braids or curls or twists, or maybe leave a few pieces out to translate into a more boho upd0, and simply fasten your veil like a crown!

Traditional, Romantic Long Curls

A great fall-back and true fan favorite is simply leaving your long curls loose, with or without a veil. This look has a ton of benefits, but most importantly (1) it’s truly timeless and always in style, and (2) it’s easy to alter throughout the day if you’re in need of a last-minute change. Ready to put your veil in? Let’s transition into the half-up curls look (my next favorite). Or, feeling the heat from meeting your new husband’s entire family? Try an elegant braided bun or a stylish pony, if it suits your style!

The Half-up Curls

Only taking up half of your hair gives you the best of both worlds: elegant, romantic long curls, but also you get your hair out of your face and the half pony is the perfect home to pin your veil. This is another favorite of mine that is easily transitioned and easily customized to your personal style and taste.

Bohemian + Carefree

Boho braids and curls are my favorite look in my brides, as it suits their personality! Your hair is just one way to further customize your wedding ensemble to YOU, and getting creative with your hairstyle is easy after you curl or style your natural hair texture, and then throw it in a side braid or twist back some pieces on the side.

The Low-do

A play on a traditional wedding up-do, but just as classy is the low-do, or styling your hair in an up-do that’s low, towards the base of your neck. Veils look really nice pinned under, or it’s a perfect solution if you’re opting for a veil-less ensemble. It’s also super easy to customize and looks great, no matter your natural hair texture!

Let me know what you’d choose! I love discussing wedding planning with brides. I’d love to chat with you, too!
