Grooms Attire 101: Everything You Need to Know About Dressing Your Man

When it comes to wedding day attire, so much of our attention is usually focused on the bride’s dress and accessories. While those are definitely important, sometimes it’s easy to overlook the little details that make up the groom’s attire! It can be overwhelming to think about whether to wear a tux or suit and what style best fits the groom. This blog post is here to talk about everything you need to know about dressing your man for your wedding day. These tips will help your fiancé look sharp and stylish.

1. Consider the formality of your event

The first thing you need to think about when it comes to dressing the groom is how formal you want your wedding day to feel. Additionally, consider the vibe of your venue. Are you having a backyard wedding, or is your location a ritzy ballroom or hotel? As the groom, you will want to dress to match the formality of your venue. Traditionally, a tuxedo is more formal while a suit is more relaxed. In the end, you should make a decision based on what feels right for both the bride and groom. Don’t stress too much if your decision over a suit vs tux is right or wrong, just go with your gut!

2. Make sure the fit is right

When it comes to wedding attire for a groom, one of the most important things is how it fits. Not only will a poorly tailored suit feel uncomfortable, it doesn’t look sharp. A few tips to consider when fitting a suit or tux include the length of the sleeves (they should hit right at the wrist), how the collar lays (it needs to be flat fitting around the neck), and the length of the pants (the hem should land comfortably on the very top of the shoe). Most suit shops will custom tailor their attire, so be sure to take advantage of that option if need be!

3. Be sure to Match the bride

It may be obvious, but it’s worth mentioning: the bride and groom’s attire should correlate! If the bride’s dress has a lot of personality (think big puffy sleeves, an extra long train, or even extravagant lace or sequins) you won’t want the groom to have a suit that makes a statement as well. It's important that the bride and groom’s outfits complement one another. Take the time to discuss and consider whether that will be a deciding factor in choosing a wedding dress or tux!

4. Don’t forget to Accessorize!

The accessories of any outfit are the fun part, especially for a groom! This is the time to pour some personality into the little details. Whether that’s socks, the tie, cufflinks, a pocket square, or a special lapel pin, don’t be afraid to consider options that speak to the groom’s unique character and identity. This is also a time to consider a patterned or colored suit if that’s something that interests you! Some grooms really enjoy wearing a suit that is outside the box, and if it works for both the bride and the groom, I say go for it.

I hope these tips are helpful to you? What else should I add to this list?
