Kylie + Jake | Minimal Studio Engagement Session

I am so excited to share this minimalist studio session. I have been dying to photograph a studio engagement session and it was such a blast! Kylie was looking for a session that matched the vibe of their wedding, and White Space Studios in Sandy, UT fits their minimal, modern aesthetic to a tee. It is a natural light studio with two rooms and several different background options. Kylie was a huge fan of the minimal white wall and after this session, I am obsessed with it, too!

Kylie and Jake met way back in high school in Dallas, TX. They’ve been together for almost six years! After Jake moved up to Utah to go to U of U and become a dentist, Kylie left Texas Tech to join him here. Jake proposed using the big marquee “marry me” letters at the La Caille Restaurant! They were such a fun couple to work with.

We had so much fun recreating some of the poses they found on Pinterest, as well as coming up with new, candid poses that matched the vibe of their relationship. The engagement session is the perfect time for me to get to see how a couple interacts with each other and truly understand their energy level. Knowing this influences the poses that I will use not only for that session but for the wedding day! Engagements are also a great time to see what poses look best on the couple’s body types and how to help them relax. We practice all of the poses at the engagement session so that they feel comfortable and natural on the wedding day.

Because we were in a studio rather than outside with the distractions of a landscape and nature, we were able to put more time and effort into coming up with fun poses that show off all of the elements of their relationship.

It was so nice that Kylie already knew what style she was looking for, and how she planned to use the photos. Besides wanting an indoor studio engagement session, which I am now obsessed with, she wanted her gallery to be black and white so that the photos would fit into their home when they hung up the prints from the session.

I am in love with Kylie and Jake’s photos, and I cannot wait for their gorgeous wedding at the Twenty & Creek this October at a new venue in Sandy.

xoxo
