Utah Helicopter Proposal
I was so excited when Maddie from Pro Proposal Co., a Utah-based proposal planning company, asked me to photograph her client’s proposal at an airport in Salt Lake County. Maddie is amazing at her job and always puts the best details together, planning everything so it’s a total surprise. Carter, the soon-to-be groom, coordinated with Maddie to make sure everything was perfect for his girlfriend, Kailey.
Maddie, myself, and the videographer arrived at the airport super early to scope out the helicopter, take some detail and location photos, and come up with our cover story so we wouldn’t tip Kailey off that she was about to get engaged! We posed as a content creation team for Keith, the helicopter pilot, and as Carter and Kailey walked up, we pretended to get behind-the-scenes footage for the pilot. Kailey had no idea the date she was going on with Carter was a helicopter ride, so the whole afternoon was a surprise to her! After Carter and Kailey were secured in the helicopter, we pretended to interview the pilot, Keith to keep the cover story going.
I hopped in the helicopter with them, and we flew around Salt Lake City. Kailey and Carter loved the views, especially seeing downtown Salt Lake City, flying over the football stadium for the University of Utah, and going near the foothills of the mountains. Unfortunately, the weather was super windy, so we weren’t able to go higher in the canyons, but it was still pretty!
While we were flying, I took a lot of photos and videos of the pilot to continue our charade of being his content creation team. Then I’d ask Carter and Kailey to help me get some B-roll footage of them smiling and enjoying their helicopter ride. They thought they were posing to help out the pilot, but really it was all for their proposal video!
When we finally landed, Carter helped Kailey out of the helicopter, where Maddie had spread rose petals. Then Carter dropped to one knee and proposed to his longtime love! She said yes! We finished by taking some incredible couple's photos to show off her ring and celebrate the occasion.
It was a perfect afternoon!
