What to Expect at Your Engagement Session

Do you want to know my number one goal for an engagement session?! It is to have fun!! I want to have fun and I am there to ensure that you have fun as well! Today I wanted to share a little bit about what you can expect from your engagement session with me and I hope it eases nerves and encourages you to join the fun!

Your engagement session is when I get to meet you both in person and see how we click! I get to witness first hand the special parts of your relationship and capture the giddy love you have for each other. In preparation for your session, I send my brides a whole complete guide that is meant to help prepare from day one! The highlights from my prep packet include bringing two outfits, coming well fed, and offer a little help on how to prepare your groom!

Engagement sessions are usually around an hour and a half long, have two locations if they’re close by, and have two outfits. I recommend one dressy casual and one red carpet. I suggest that you get your makeup and hair done, bring a bouquet of flowers and then head to a location that’s special and unique to the two of you. This is a special experience so don’t be afraid to pull out all the stops and make it special!

Sometimes our grooms get a little it anxious about photo shoots so easing the tension is key! I recommend coming very well fed and possibly bringing reinforcements (aka snacks)! Especially for those poor grooms to be with crazy fast metabolisms, being prepared is essential! If you’re driving up the canyon to a location further away, bring a snack for before the session starts, one for halfway through when you change outfits, and one to eat on the way home. You will probably laugh and may think it is snack overkill but boy does it come in handy!

Smiling and being camera ready takes a ton of energy. You will be surprised by how tired, hungry, and thirsty you might be after the shoot! I like to have my couples come in their dressy casual, “first date” outfits and spend the first minutes getting to know each other and walk around. These moments to relax and chat are vital to setting the mood to the session so even if we’re running late, I’ll always make time for a few minutes to get to know you guys!

My photo style is a mix of posed moments and candid reactions to keep the energy up and give a variety of photos. When you two are changing into your second outfit, I’ll sneak away with the engagement ring and get a few detail shots of it. That way we don’t lose any time once you’re back and we can keep shooting! Overall, I just want your engagement session to be the beginning of our professional relationship that sets the stage for your whole wedding planning adventure!

xoxo
