Why Flash Mentoring is a Must for Photographers Who Want to Succeed

Flash photography is a beast. And it’s a pretty daunting, overwhelming one when you’re trying to learn it on a short timeline (like the week leading up to your first wedding or the moment you realize the thunderstorms outside will impact the lighting on the reception you’re about to photograph in an hour).

Do yourself a favor and arm yourself with the knowledge and confidence that understanding flash provides BEFORE you’re facing a stressful situation!

Not sure where to turn to learn how to increase your competency in flash photography? I’ve got your back. I’m Savanna, your flash extraordinaire, personal cheerleader, and teacher of all things technical! While flash can feel overwhelming, the science behind it is not. Once you learn the details, you can play the game every time.

Investing in your education can be one of the best things you do for your business, and investing in flash education to increase your technical knowledge will form a much stronger foundation as you grow your business. I’m excited for you to take your skillset to the next level after a flash mentoring session!

When I first started shooting, I was just as panicked as you might be. I wondered how to do basic things like turn my flash on and off, or what the numbers meant, and how I was supposed to understand the math and fractions involved in photography when I was never a math whiz! But now that I know what I’m looking for and have a full, comprehensive understanding of flash, I’m eager to share this with my fellow photographers to ease their stress and frustration and allow them to produce the results they dream of.

I majored in photography, received a Bachelor of Arts, and even worked at two universities as a professional photographer to learn these technical skills. I spent years perfecting my craft so I could leave the corporate world and become a wedding photographer and educator full-time. My formal education taught me all the technical and artistic rules I’m not passing on to you!

So, rather than spending your time Googling how to light a reception or what flash modifiers to use, invest in a personalized mentoring experience where I share with you everything I’ve learned from my college degree — and more!

You can choose how we work together, whether in-person for a lengthy discussion or for a quick, virtual overview and refresher. But regardless of how we come together, this is just a snippet of the resources you’ll receive and the new knowledge you’ll arm yourself with as we head into another busy wedding season:

  • What gear to buy

  • How to make the most of the gear you already use

  • Where to place your lights

  • How to achieve light and bright reception photos

My recommendation for those just getting started with flash is to start with a one- or two-hour session to make sure I can fill in the gaps of the crucial flash knowledge and bolster you up with information catered to your photography style and needs to support your business.

If you’re ready for a hands-on experience with your in-depth learning, package three on my mentoring page will include a small styled shoot where we can work in a real venue, with a real bride, and talk through the different lighting scenarios of a wedding in a way that allows you to immediately visualize and take action on what you’re learning.

Learn more about the mentoring opportunities I offer on my Mentoring page! I can’t wait to chat with you.
