This last year we saw so many changes in our lives. 2019 was definitely a growing year for the two of us! From living in a new city to buying our first blender to exploring new states and national parks, the Richardsons had an adventurous year!

Jacob has been working as an auditor for Deloitte and putting crazy hours into his job. We sort of look at it as a second master’s degree — it’ll be a few crazy years of crazy hours but it’ll give him the training he needs. At the same time, he’s been supporting me so much and helping with Clarity Lane on the weekends.

Last December I left my photography job at Utah Valley University to put all my efforts into Clarity Lane full time. At that time, Clarity Lane was a team effort with two friends and we had plans to take over the world of wedding photography! We were photographing a ton, growing our client base, improving our client experience, and planning on expanding to family and senior photography. All of that changed in April when the owner decided she needed to step down. I was so shocked and it took a while to sink in! I decided to purchase the company from her and take Clarity Lane in my own direction while we went our separate ways. That meant rebranding, connecting with vendors as the new owner, and a whole bunch of learning and adapting! There was enough work to keep the three of us busy, and now I had to juggle it on my own.

Thank goodness for the most amazing husband who helped me keep my head on straight! With his background in accounting and his very logical, goal-focused personality, Jacob was able to help me automate, simplify, and organize Clarity Lane into the well-oiled machine it is now! One of my favorite parts of 2019 was joining up with Jacob to make Clarity Lane not just my business, but something we did together and were both fully invested in. I spend 40 hours a week on it while he only has time on weekends, but we make the decisions together. We brainstorm together. We celebrate the highs and lows together. It’s so wonderful working on a business together!
