How to Choose the Right Shoes for Your Wedding Ensemble

Wedding shoes may seem small in the grand scheme of things but they can make or break your wedding day. Think about all the times you’ve worn shoes in different settings. We don’t always pick wisely, sometimes we pick cute over comfort and we end up with major sores. Wearing the wrong shoes to your wedding can seriously mess with your mood.  We’ve compiled a list of the Dos and Don’ts for wedding day shoes to help you on your special day.

Consider Your Venue

Be mindful of your venue… Are there stairs or gravel roads or slippery floors? Find shoes that will be good in the environment you choose. If you’re having a beach wedding maybe high heels aren’t the best fit for that scene.

Know What You Want

  • Do you want to match with the groom?

  • Does style or comfort matter most?

  • Do you want to invest in a pair of shoes you’ll continue to wear after the wedding?

  • Do you want your shoes to make a statement or be more conservative?

  • Do you want to wear one pair of shoes all day?

  • Do you want to be able to dance in these shoes?

  • Do you want to wear something you’d never normally wear?

Shop Around

Don’t buy the first pair of shoes you lay eyes on.  Shop around and see all your options before making a decision.  There are lots of styles and cute shoes to be seen, but most stores have a wider variety online so don’t limit yourself to only shopping in-store.

Weather

If you’re getting married and the weather isn’t going to be ideal, pack two pairs of shoes! Snowing? Pack furry winter boots. Raining? Pack cute rain boots! You can always have your inside shoes packed away for when you do go inside, but the goal is to have warm comfortable feet while outside.

Prioritize Comfort

The last thing you want is to look back on your wedding day and only remember how much your feet hurt.  Consider how long you’ll be standing on your wedding day and not only standing but also dancing and walking. If your perfect shoes create sore spots in certain areas on your feet and you still want to wear them, consider ways around it, like using moleskin or applying a liquid band-aid to sore areas. Consider bringing a pair of sandals or fun sneakers to change into for your reception so you can easily dance comfortably when the time comes.

Dress Fitting

Bring a few different shoes to your dress fitting to see which ones go well together! If you plan on wearing two different shoes on your wedding day, bring them both! This will allow your seamstress to alter the dress if needed to showcase your shoes perfectly.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Waiting until the last minute to buy your shoes will give you no time to break them in, leaving you with painful shoes to wear on your wedding day. BREAK IN THOSE SHOES!

There’s a lot that goes into wedding day shoes but the number one thing is to let it show your personality.  At the end of the day you want to feel confident and there’s no better way than to be true to yourself and wear what you love. We hope you have the best wedding in the very best shoes!
