What's In My Bag Part II
The gear I pack in my bag for wedding and reception sessions is a little different from my engagement and family sessions. These special preparations along with a couple tricks I have picked up throughout my photography experience help me get through these sessions flawlessly. Here is what you can find in my bag:
Flash Gear:
- (6) canon 600ex II-rt
- (4) stands
- (4) flash mounts
- (2) umbrellas
- (2) sandbags
I also include as much water as I can carry and extra snacks. This is important in order to keep my energy up throughout the day. A clear schedule is also essential when it comes to the wedding day timeline. I need to be prepared as soon as I show up.
Then, I make sure to pack a few things for emergencies. I keep rain gear and an extra outfit in my car, just in case. In fact, these two things have proven to be necessities after a couple surprise rain storms and the time I accidentally ripped my skirt in the middle of photographing a wedding!
I recommend practicing as much as you can to get comfortable with the contents in your bag and to ensure you don't need anything additional. Also, get to the venue early to assess and set up lights. Don't be afraid to move these lights during the night and as event changes. The bride and groom will understand. Adapting to different elements as needed is important. These include high winds, low ceilings and anything that makes that provides better photo opportunities!
My final tip for photographing weddings and receptions is to make sure to use what your bride provides you. This way, the shoot stays true to her unique style! If this means carrying something of hers with you, don't forget it! Packing your gear bag can make or break your work day, not to mention the most important day of someones life. Pack it wisely!!
