How to Be the Best Maid of Honor Ever

Being a maid of honor just that, an honor. Out of everyone in her life she could have asked, your bestie asked you to be a part of her biggest day! Now you have a great opportunity to serve your friend in an extremely selfless and unique way. Here are five tips to help you be the best maid of honor ever!

  1. Ask the bride what she needs (more than once). Your best friend has so much on her plate as the bride, so ask her from time to time what she needs. Encourage non-wedding related tasks, too! Your girl might need anything from a caffeinated pick-me-up to tackle the guest list to a second cake taster. Whatever the case may be, the bride will appreciate having her best girlfriend in her corner to help with whatever comes her way.

  2. Have an opinion. It’s easy to think that your job as maid of honor is to simply be there to support the bride in her decisions. True, but sometimes your friend will want a second opinion, and she won’t appreciate a wishy-washy, “whatever you think is best” answer. Have an opinion and be willing to share your reasoning behind it! Your definitive guidance will do so much more for your BFF to help her in all of the decision making.

  3. Be enthusiastic. Wedding planning can get tedious, and there very well might be some tears along the way. You will need to be your bestie’s emotional pick-me-up throughout the planning process to cheer her on and remind her how exciting it is that she is marrying her sweetheart! P.S. - chocolate is a great helper, too.

  4. Plan a great “last hurrah”. Whether it’s a bridal shower or bachelorette party, your girl will want a final night with just her girls before she becomes Mrs. Right. Ask the bride what type of party she is hoping for, and then work hard to make that last girls’ night a success! Enlist the help of the other bridesmaids as well - you don’t have to be a one-man-show.

  5. Encourage some escape time. It’s easy for the bride to get swamped in wedding plans. Help her unwind by planning a low-key movie night, getting mani/pedis, or texting her to remind her to take a bubble bath and read her favorite book that night. She’ll appreciate the time to unwind and refresh after all of the work she’s put into her current wedding tasks!

There you have it - five ways you can be the best maid of honor ever! It’s sure to be the day of her dreams with you at your bestie’s side. Enjoy this time with your friend and the fact that she wanted you to be included on the biggest day of her life! You’re helping to begin their happily ever after.
