Niki + Jason | Salt Flats Engagement Session

Niki and Jason are truly a one-of-a-kind couple. They are thoughtful, artistic, adventurous, and the most creative engineers I’ve ever met. They met over bagels several years ago while working in the same office and realized how much they had in common. After their first date, they quickly became each other's people. Jason says that they found each other during the darkest seasons of their lives, which is how they decided on the wedding theme, "Blooms in the Dark." They have had to work through so much, but have grown closer and loved each other through it all.

When Jason proposed, they were on a private black-sand beach in Hawaii. He had arranged a photo session for the two of them, and the setting was absolutely stunning. Jagged black volcanic rock jutted out from the beach. The sky was filled with color from the setting sun. Niki says that it seemed so surreal, like from a dream. Partway through the session, Jason found a moment when Nicole was distracted and grabbed her by the hands, knelt on one knee, and asked the big question. Niki could not hold back her "yes!"

We had big shoes to fill with their engagement session, so I took this adventurous couple to one of my favorite locations in Utah. The Bonneville Salt Flats are almost other-worldly! They are minimalistic and white and full of the best textures for photos. I hopped in their truck, and we were able to find a stretch of beach where we had space away from everyone else. After an outfit change, we scoured the beach for something different. Even though it was the end of the summer, we were able to find a bit of water for some awesome reflection photos. The sunset light at the Salt Flats is always so dreamy, so we took advantage of the golden hour as well.

I am so excited for Niki and Jason’s wedding that is coming up in November. Their wedding theme, "Blooms in the Dark," will be complete with romantic Italian details and over-the-top florals. This couple’s love is worth celebrating, and I feel so honored to be a part of their big day.
