Six Places to Take Formal Pictures Besides the Temple

I may be a little biased, but picking photo locations is one of the best parts of wedding planning. For formal pictures, your location should be the perfect accent to your outfits, colors, and the overall vibe of your photoshoot. I am a big believer in choosing a location that feels true to you and your style.

For couples who plan to get married in an LDS temple, formal photo locations may seem limited to the temple grounds. Don’t get me wrong, the temple grounds are beautiful and can be a special location for a first look and formal shoot. But like I said, your wedding pictures can be as unique as you are! So when brainstorming a location for your wedding formals, take a look at this list.  You may be convinced to try something new and choose a beautiful outdoor location for your pictures.

In this blog post, I’m sharing six stunning locations in Northern Salt Lake for your formal wedding photoshoot (besides the temple).

Antelope Island

Surrounded by the blue waters of the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island is a beautiful location with neutral colors. Having shot here many times, I can say that this is definitely a place that can be dressed up or down. Wedding formals would be stunning at this location!

Bonneville Salt Flats

Speaking of locations with neutral colors, I’d vote that the Bonneville Salt Flats win in that department. The white sand seems to stretch on forever, making it an absolutely stunning and completely unforgettable location for any kind of pictures, especially formals.

Big Cottonwood Canyon

Northern Utah has some of the most gorgeous canyons that are absolutely ideal for formal photos. Depending on the time of year, Big Cottonwood Canyon has something different to offer. Whether it’s wildflowers in the spring or yellow leaves in the fall, this is a perfect spot for formals.

State Capitol Building

The Capitol Building is a timeless location for formal photos. The architecture is beautifully classy, making it the perfect accent your relationship. There are several different backgrounds within the capital building, which helps provide variety in your pictures.

Cactus and Tropical Greenhouse

If you aren’t interested in traveling up a canyon for a green background, consider checking out the Cactus and Tropical Greenhouse in Draper. Not only will you find a variety of plants to compliment your photos, but you are guaranteed to have unique photos and beautiful results.

Main Street, Park City

Park City is known for it’s small town charm, which is why it makes a memorable place for wedding pictures. If mountainous landscapes aren’t really your thing, then the beautiful buildings of Park City may be exactly the location you’re looking for!

Wherever you choose to take your formal pictures, remember that it’s okay to do something different than the norm. You can branch out from the standard temple-grounds shots if you want your formals to look a little different. Its your day, so be true to you!

I hope this list was helpful! What other locations should I add?
